Hērodots no Halikarnasas (Ἡρόδοτος Ἁλικαρνᾱσσεύς - Hēródotos Halikarnāsseú; starp 490. un 480. g.p.m.ē. - ~425. g.p.m.ē.) - hellēņu (joniešu) zinātnieks un ceļotājs, t.s. vēstures tēvs, nosacīti uzskatāms par pirmo vēsturnieku Eiropā. Liksta dēls. Aktīvi iesaistijies Halikarnasas politiskajā dzīvē: bija aktīvā opozīcijā tirānam Ligdamisam. Izraidīts trimdā. Daudz ceļojis - apceļojis visu Vidusjūras austrumu piekrasti, ilgāku laiku dzīvojis Atēnās. Ap 443. g.p.m.ē. pārcēlies uz atēniešu koloniju Fūriju Dienviditālijā. Sarakstījis (joniešu dialektā) darbu "Historiai" (vēsture), kurā aprakstīti sengrieķu-persiešu kari (550.-449. g.p.m.ē.), kā arī sengrieķiem zināmās tautas un ģeogrāfija.
